  8. II just purchased the first twelve disks of TAWUG, from the Big Red Apple M
  9. KClub. Although I have gone through all twelve, I will be gleaning gems for E
  10. Cmany days and weeks. Congratulations on the great job you and your =
  11. contributors have done. That was the best $13 I ever spent.
  12. MLet me introduce myself. I have had my Apple//c since January of this year.  N
  13. LAt the time of purchase, I wanted to use it with Appleworks (wordprocessing K
  14. Iand data base, esp.) and for home accounting, Dollars and $ense.  I also K
  15. Ibought a second disk drive, Oki/Imagewriter printer and a mouse.  In the G
  16. Eeleven months since then, I have added a modem and joined CompuServe J
  17. H(72447,602) and DELPHI (IDA); joined IAC and CALL A.P.P.L.E.  My latest I
  18. Gaddition is a Princeton HX-12 after installing a Vidio 7 color //c and 
  19. mappler.  Color is terrific!!
  20. JWhy? Well, I am 52 years young, mother of three children now out on their M
  21. Kown.  My daughter is studying computer programming and CAD in the state of M
  22. KWashington in connection with her job.  I could see where I was being left P
  23. Nbehind in more ways than one.  I wanted to keep up with technology and having <
  24. computer literacy seemed like one way of hanging in there.
  25. LI work full-time as a bookkeeper for a local lumber and hardware store.  We M
  26. Kdo not have a computer in our office, but I am working on it. There are so O
  27. Mmany ways a computerized office would save time and money.  But the building K
  28. Iindustry and our farm economy is very depressed (I live in North
  29. Dakota, P
  30. Nremember; if the farmer is prosperous, so is all of North
  31. Dakota) and for the M
  32. Kmoment it is a loosing game.  Deciding to show my boss what a computer can P
  33. Ndo,I put our sales on a spreadsheet and printed it for him.  He was impressed N
  34. Lbut until the economy turns around, computers will have to wait. Meanwhile, P
  35. Nhe had me do spreadsheets of our sales for the last five years. Don't worry I ,
  36. kept track of my time and was paid for it.
  37. NI am Conference President of about 3000 American Lutheran Church Women in our M
  38. Karea.  I have set up a data base of the 300 officers in our conference and Q
  39. Odistrict.  I use the wordprocessor for letters and use AMP to mailmerge them.  E
  40. CWe also write a newsletter and handbooks for training seminars and L
  41. Jconventions.  DJ Lane's

  45. LI am sending you the spreadsheet form that could be used for other accruals N
  46. Lbeside sales.  The formulas add each of the first six months data for a six K
  47. Imonth total; each month after the sixth is shown in the second six month O
  48. Mtotal and the year end total is recalculated after each months entry. So you O
  49. Malways have a year to date total that is current.  Each column down adds the L
  50. Jtype of sale into a sub-total that is included in the monthly total.  The M
  51. Ktotal for Taxable Sales I have continued to figure separately and enter as N
  52. Ldata only. State taxes vary too much and I haven't tried to enter a formula P
  53. Nyet, but it wouldn't be impossible.  The titles are protected, to change them M
  54. Kuse @T (open-apple t), use same to protect them after changing, by placing N
  55. Lcursor at topmost, leftmost position, under and to the right of the labels. I
  56. G(On this example, to the left of Cash Sales and in July column.) Press G
  57. EOpen-Apple T and when asked, move cursor to BOTH, now the labels are C
  58. protected and will follow you as you move across the spreadsheet.
  59. LWhen I first used this protection, I panicked when I tried to move into the O
  60. Mprotected area and saw what looked like extra titles appearing on the form.  M
  61. KThis is only an optical illusion and if you move the cursor down or to the P
  62. Nright, eventually everything will look normal, until you try to move into the O
  63. Mprotected area again. Carole Matthews' book

  67. IOne more thing, the automatic recalculation is off; to recalculate after "
  68. entering data, use Open-Apple K.
  69. NI was going to send a copy of my data base on the officers in the church work N
  70. Lthat I do, but have decided to give a tip instead.  We have three levels of L
  71. JOfficers in our District and at different times must send a letter to one L
  72. Jtype or an other.  So each is coded not only by the office she holds, but H
  73. Falso by the level she is. Now for a letter to local Presidents, I use O
  74. Mopen-apple F and type  L.Pres.....and there is my mailing list.  The process J
  75. His the same for a list of conference Vice-Presidents (C.VP) or district ?
  76. Secretary (D.Sec) or whatever group of officers I might need.
  77. MThis way I only have to maintain one data base, but I can pull out any group N
  78. Lof officers that I need with a couple of key strokes. Also, by using coding P
  79. Nin listing each congregation, I can call up a list of all the officers in one <
  80. particular parish.

  84. Before you set up a database, try to imagine all the different lists P
  85. Nthat you might want or need to compile from the database.  Include catagories C
  86. that can be searched for a partial listing for a particular need.
